Whether you want to add a sweet and smokey flavour to a dessert, or have an impressive homemade apple sauce to serve with slow roasted pork or beef, this recipe has you covered!
Ingredients:
5 Granny Smith or Pink Lady apples
50g unsalted butter
2 tbls dark muscavado sugar
1 tsp sea salt
Method:
- Place whole apples with melted butter in the oven at 180c for 20 mins
- Apples should still be whole but with skin broken and cooked through
- On a hot grill, place a wire rack on top and let it heat for 5 mins
- Place the apples whole on the grill, turning every couple of mins to get a char on the skin. Go quite dark as this will add colour and flavour to your sauce
- Save the butter and cooking juices from the apples, you will need this for the next step.
- In a food blender, place the apples (you will need to cut the apples into quarters) butter and juices from the oven, along with the dark muscavado and sea salt
- Blend the sauce into a smooth texture, until it looks velvety
- Scoop into a sealable container until ready to serve. The sauce will last in the fridge for up to 7 days
